Plant a tree so others may live
“Someone is sitting in the shade because someone planted a tree long time ago.” – Warren Buffett
Solstad Offshore has long been committed to integrate social and environmental concerns in its business operations on a voluntary basis.
To support this commitment, Solstad Manila launched a campaign during the crew conference in February 2019, to adopt a hectare in the La Mesa Watershed Reservation. Also known as the last remaining rainforest of its size in Metro Manila, it surrounds the La Mesa Dam and Reservoir which is the primary source of potable drinking water for 12 million residents in the Manila metropolitan area. The campaign was headed by Rolando Adorable (PHMA President and General Manager) and facilitated by Lyrah Veona Maxwell (PHHQ HSEQ Environmental Assistant).
With funding help from our seafarers, staffs in various branch offices and their families, we were able to achieve our goal to adopt a hectare. In February 2019, volunteers from Solstad Offshore planted the seedlings to prepare them for the actual tree planting event in August 2019.
On August 9th, 2019, office staffs together with their families volunteered to plant the fully developed saplings. Heavy rains and strong winds caused by the southwest monsoon, did not stop our Solstad Manila team to achieve their goals of planting 400 saplings.
Our mission on giving back to the environment does not end here, it has only started.
